An indigenous get-together: Norway

On September 1, 2005, Ole Henrik Magga and Victoria Tauli-Corpuz shared a bottle of Murrin Bridge 2004 Chardonnay at he University College in Guovdageaidnu (Kautokeino, Norway).

Ole Henrik Magga was the first and longest-serving President of the Sami Parliament in Norway, and is now Professor of Sami linguistics at the University College.

Victoria Tauli-Corpuz, from the Kankanaey-igorot people in the Philippines, is the founder and Executive Director of the Tebtebba Foundation, an indigenous research centre). In May 2005 she took over from Ole Henrik Magga as Chairman of the UN Permanent Forum of Indigenous Issues.

"This wine is fresh and inspiring," said Ole Henrik Magga. "From this wine I think I can both smell and taste and feel the indigenous wisdom and deep knowledge accumulated through generations. Rightly used, it will stimulate both indigenous and other women and men to a deeper understanding of our wonderful mother earth's gifts. I wish those who made it every success!"
